Beyond the Yellow Ribbon Deployment Cycle Support Team

Programs and Resources

American Red Cross (external link) - This is a humanitarian organization led by volunteers and guided by its Congressional Charter and the Fundamental Principles of the International Red Cross Movement. It will provide relief to victims of disaster and help people prevent, prepare for, and respond to emergencies.

Director of Mental Wellness and the Military Family - A Director of Psychological Health is a civilian position with the Army National Guard in each state which ensures that each Service Member has access to mental health services either through direct service to the individual or through referral networks. It forms collaborations of appropriate agencies, communities, and professionals with the goal of creating "wrap-around" social networks and support for Service Members, which are located in their own communities. Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) - Department of Defense Organization whose mission is "to gain and maintain employer support for Guard and Reserve service by recognizing outstanding support, increasing awareness of the law, and resolving conflicts through mediation". ESGR provides free education, consultation and if necessary, mediation for Guard and Reserve members and their employers if they have questions or problems. The law which was established to protect both military members and their employers is known as the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act. Family Assistance Centers (FAC) - The FAC was formed to assist families of Service Members with needs which arise while the service member is deployed. The FAC is your local resource center for all issues. For more information, contact the Beyond the Yellow Ribbon team at familyprograms.mn@ng.army.mil.

Family Counseling - In group forums or private meetings, families interact with others, hear from those who’ve experienced deployments, and develop mutual support networks.

"Get the Job" Seminar - Various business leaders and college educators will be on hand to teach and assist you with interview skills, translating your military accomplishments to valuable experience for the civilian employer, and resume/cover letter building. Marriage Enrichment Workshops (Strong Bonds) - In a casual group environment, these retreats provide an educational and practical application opportunity for military couples to learn what works – and what doesn’t work – in marriage and life partnerships. Military OneSource (MOS) (external link) - Whether its help with child care, personal finances, emotional support during deployments, relocation information or resources needed for special circumstances, Military OneSource is there for Service Members and their families 24/7/365! Military OneSource offers 12 free counseling sessions per individual to help assess needs and assistance.

Medical Transition Assistance Coordinator (MTAC) – serve as a liaison between organizations in order to facilitate a seamless medical transition to the appropriate medical system, if required. The MTAC works in conjunction with the Beyond the Yellow Ribbon Program and the Warrior Transition unit of assignment to assist with the Reintegration process. Military & Family Life Consultants (MFLC) - Masters or Ph.D. level Licensed Clinical Counselors who augment existing military services and work with families, individuals’, couples, and children to provide non-medical counseling services. Beyond the Yellow Ribbon Clinical Counselors offer short term, solution focused counseling, education, and referral. Contact any of the Consultants listed below to assist you:
Monthly Individual Reintegration Training (MIRT) - A one-day reintegration training event for individual Service Members released from active duty. The program mirrors the 30 day reintegration training. The MIRT provides the individual transitioning Soldier an opportunity to learn about the specific challenges of reintegration unique to their situations and to understand what resources are available. for more information, please contact the Beyond the Yellow Ribbon team at yellowribbontraining.mn@ng.army.mil.

Parents as Teachers (external link)
The Parents as Teachers - Heroes at Home program provides parent education and family support through pregnancy until their child enters kindergarten, usually about age 5. By understanding what to expect during each stage of development, parents can capture the teachable moments in everyday life to enhance their child's development. See flyer here.


Operation: Military Kids (OMK) (external link) - Supports youth from all branches of the military and was the U.S. Army's collaborative effort with America's communities to support the children and youth impacted by deployment.

Our Military Kids (external link) - An organization whose purpose is to supply the families of deployed Service Members with funding so that they can either start or continue extracurricular activities while parents are deployed. The grant is in the amount of $500 and covers youth sports, fine arts, and tutorial programs, as well as activities such as beauty pageants and school trips. This is for youth ages three to 12th grade whose parents are deployed members of the National Guard or the Reserves. Applications can be submitted online for this benefit.

Single Soldier Retreat - Information and resources are made available to ensure that single Service Members’ mental and emotional needs are addressed through sponsorship, mentorship, and ‘buddy-system’ support. Transition Assistance Advisors (TAA) - Provide information and assistance to Service Members and their families in understanding and obtaining benefits and services through Veterans Affairs and the military health system. TAA’s perform non-clinical case management of wounded and injured Service Members returning from contingency operations. Youth Counseling Sessions - Designed to address unique questions of children and teenagers, counseling professionals and experts help them develop effective coping strategies during the absence of their parents.

Youth Programs - Youth Program training provides deployment and reintegration information for children of Service Members. It provides opportunities for children and youth to participate in activities that teach life skills that help them cope and connect with other military peers in discussion groups.
