Speak Out For Military Kids (SOMK) is an Operation Military Kids Program in partnership with the University of Minnesota Extension, 4-H, American Legion, MN Department of Education, Boys and Girls Clubs of America, Army Reserve, National Guard, and Youth. SOMK is a youth lead program designed to raise awareness of issues facing military families. Through youth-lead simulations, interviews, speeches, artwork or other forms of expression, participants find out what military families go through. Members of SOMK are military youth and non-military friends who want to support military families. Presentations are done at schools, civic organizations, faith based groups, and various other places to build public awareness about issues facing military families during mobilization and deployment.
Speak Out Military Kids (SOMK) is a weekend retreat for military youth to share their thoughts and experiences of having a family member deployed with other military youth. The weekend includes reflection time, creative outlets, group activities, and social time. The weekend ends with each youth presenting their own story about "their deployment" experience.
There is absolutely NO COST to participate but enrollment is limited so respond quickly.
