Beyond the Yellow Ribbon of Martin County
Martin County reaches out to every branch of the military and their families in the rural towns of Ceylon, Dunnell, Fairmont, Granada, Northrop, Ormsby, Sherburn, Trimont, Truman and Welcome. The county was officially proclaimed Sept. 16, 2011.
They can be proud of their efforts in planning a Red Bull Send off in May of 2011. As the unit marched down the street, community members lined the parade route with hundreds of people wearing "Support Our Troops" shirts and waving American Flags. They provided a meal and served 1,500 people. Other events include concerts at the opera house, Welcome to the Lakes DJ and Karoke, Military Appreciation Golf Tournament, Let's Go Fishing, bowling, Red Bull Rodeo, Operation Military Kids Day Camp, Military Family Appreciation Day at the Martin County Fair and Operation Christmas Connection.
The Fairmont High School offers a service project providing spring yard clean up for military families. In addition, the committee helps by mowing spouse's yard, providing car repairs and sending memorials to military families. This network goes to great lengths to gain exposure by networking with all organizations that may be a good part of the team.
