Beyond the Yellow Ribbon Watonwan County
This Beyond the Yellow Ribbon entity is made up of Butterfield, Darfur, St. James, La Salle, Lewisville, Madelia and Odin and was proclaimed Sept. 16, 2011.
This committee was organized in spring of 2010 with a large group of volunteers from all facets of the county. They have been very active providing assistance for military Servicemembers, families and all veterans throughout the county. They orgainzed a send-off ceremony for the local National Guard unit providing lunch for the Soldiers and their families before they departed for their one year deployment.
They are very proud to have assisted with the funeral for local fallen Soldier Sergeant Emilio Campo Jr. of Madelia. Wantonwan County provided a simulcast of the funeral in Madelia Elementary School which enabled the overflow crowd to view the funeral live. They were also instrumental in preparing and serving lunch after the funeral.
Wantonwan County continues to work with the local chambers of commerce to identify businesses in the area that are military and veteran friendly. They then recommend these businesses to the families of Servicemembers. Also, they participate in local parades and community celebrations and have manned a booth at the county fair.
