Secure Optimal Yield Scholarship One-time, $5,000 scholarship award presented to a high school senior who plans to pursue agriculture as a degree area of study at any accredited college or university next year. Essay submission required, and the winner will be notified prior to the official announcement in March 2013 during the annual Commodity Classic convention and trade show in Kissimmee, Fla. VFW Voice of Democracy Each year, more than 51,000 high school students from across the country enter to win a share of the $2.2 million in educational scholarships and incentives awarded through the VFW's Voice of Democracy audio-essay competition. For 2012, students must write and record a three-to-five minute essay on the theme "Is Our Constitution Still Relevant?" Middle school students in grades 6-8 have the opportunity to compete in the Patriot's Pen Essay Competition by writing a 300-400 word essay on the theme "What I Would Tell America's Founding Fathers." SAT and ACT Test Prep Software for Military Families Worldwide EKnowledge, the Department of Defense and several NFL and MLB athletes have made available the $200 SAT and ACT PowerPrep Program to military Servicemembers and their extended families (there is a nominal charge of $17.55 per program for materials and shipping). Military Extension Internship Program An opportunity for college students to gain practical work experience in child development, school age and youth programs.
