Yellow Ribbon Network of Washington CountyWashington County got its start when Lt. Col. John Morris began a dialogue with the Washington County Board of Commissioners in 2008, extending an invitation to talk about the experiences and needs of deployed Servicemembers, and their families. Later, County board members expressed their interest in finding ways to collaborate in supporting the troops and their families.
In January of 2010, community leaders were meeting to seek ways to create a support network that would add the efforts of the Minnesota National Guard's Deployment Cycle Support, to lessen the burden on spouses and children while a family member is deployed. Washington County was proclaimed a Yellow Ribbon County in January of 2010.
